The late great Fr. Joseph Ratzinger, also known as Pope Benedict XVI, called the Beatitudes, “a sort of veiled interior biography of Jesus, a kind of portrait of his figure” (Joseph Ratzinger, Jesus of Nazareth: From the Baptism in the Jordan to the Transfiguration, 75).
