This pennant is designed for the great Season of Lent. Its grey color is meant to evoke the ashes traced upon our foreheads at the beginning of Lent each year on Ash Wednesday. The featured text are the words spoken as this powerful sacramental is impressed upon us. The sacramental is a striking reminder that apart from the Love of God, we would be nothing. At the same time, however, it reminds us of the power of God’s love for us, a Love so great that the Incarnate Son willfully went all the way to the edge of God-foresakenness, to bring us back to the life we were created for, loving communion with our Creator God. This reminder therefore calls us to penitential acts during this Season of Lent, acts aimed at allowing the Love that once called us into existenc to animate our lives more fully. The cross that serves as the backdrop is threefold, a reminder that we are being called to return to the great Love that Is the Triune God during this Season. It is designed with the Lenten color purple with a pinkish hue near the bottom. This pink hue evokes Laetare Sunday, the Fourth Sunday of Lent, the day we are called to rejoice in the midst of our penitential efforts, reminding us that joy, not sorrow will be the end of our striving. For ultimately, we know Christ rose again from the grave, triumphant over sin and death. Thus, the pink hue rises into the threefold cross from the bottom.
