Rend Your Hearts-Lenten Pennant

This pennant is designed for the great Season of Lent, a time of repentance undergone in preparation, ultimately, for meeting the Risen Christ on Easter. The penitential nature of the Lenten Season is symbolized by the pennant’s purple color, the liturgical color of the Season of Lent. The pennant features chapter 2 verse 13 of the Book of the Prophet Joel, a verse which is heard each hear on Ash Wednesday. The verse communicates very succinctly yet deeply the whole purpose of the great Season of Lent, calling us to return to God with the whole of our lives. The symbol of the heart being penetrated by the cross behind the text speaks graphically to what the verse teaches. Namely, that the Season of Lent is a time especially dedicated to conforming ourselves to the love of the Incarnate Son which redeemed us, and set us free from the power of sin and death.
