On the Third Day-Easter Pennant

This pennant is designed for the Easter Season, a time celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and the beginning of new life for all those reborn through, with, and in Him by the sacred waters of Baptism. The text proclaims the central and foundational tenet of the Christian Faith, that Jesus Christ indeed rose from the dead after being in the grave for three days. The Christian Faith stands or falls on this belief. For as St. Paul writes in his First Letter to the Corinthians, 

“if Christ has not been raised, then empty too is our preaching, empty, too, if your faith” (1 Corinthians 15:14).

In a time and place where many do not believe in this core teaching of the Christian Faith, it is all the more edifying to have it present as a constant reminder during this glorious Season of Easter.

The central image of the pennant depicts the empty tomb shrouded in dark purple, which bursts forth with rays of Divine Light that now bathes even the Cross with Its glory as Christ has triumphed over sin and death. The dark color purple hearkens back to the Season of Lent, reminding viewers of the season of repentance and penitence that they have just emerged from, so that, just as Christ has been raised from the dead, they too might rise with Him to new life in communion with God Who Is Love through, with, and in Him.

The three crosses above the tomb are a reminder of not only the Crucifixion of the Incarnate Son, but of the two thieves crucified with Him. These other two crosses therefore stand as a cause for self-reflection. The Cross and Tomb of Christ confront us with Divine Love, an offer which we can either remain indifferent to or fall in love with in return. The difference is no trivial matter. Whereas the indifferent thief simply dies, the Good Thief is promised eternal life by the Savior, Jesus Christ.

Framing the image on the left hand side is a bouquet of lilies, a traditional symbol of Christ’s Resurrection, signifying a new beginning for all those who, like the Good Thief, cling to Christ in Faith. 

Each pennant comes with a wooden dowel for easy hanging. They’re lightweight and highly durable for decor that looks stunning in the long run.
