Product Description

Designed to be hung in your kitchen or dining room, this decorative canvas is a reminder that our love for God is lived out in our love for neighbor. The quote comes from St. Possidius, Bishop of Calama’s, Biography of St. Augustine of Hippo. The Bishop of Calama was a student of St. Augustine, and lived in the same household for a time (Biography of St. Augustine, 32). The bishop of Hippo and Father of the Church, Augustine, is said to have had this inscribed on the table in his home, to encourage hospitality, even to those not present, while discouraging gossip and offense against the 5th commandment by refraining “from unnecessary and harmful tales” (Ibid.). The Cross in the center is a reminder that Christ’s sacrifice is the ultimate action of love for neighbor, while the four fleur-de-lis in the corners signify Mary, the Mother of Christ, and her admonition to always ‘do as Christ tells us’ (John 2:5).
